#27 Chocolate Chiffon Cake with Chocolate Whipped Cream

This is my first cake on my own with little Georgie. I had it pretty easy this time round. He was fast asleep when I needed to get ingredients so dad watched him while I ran to the store. He got hungry a few minutes after I put the cake in the oven, while the rest of the time he slept peacefully in his pack n play right by our kitchen. 🙂

He sleeps through any noise so far. My mixer is VERY noisy (has something to do with the fact that it is refurbished) and I was whipping egg whites AND whipping cream and he slept through it all.
He also slept through all the fireworks we set off for the 4th, including some gun shots! Good baby.

Chocolate and cream. Making chocolate whipped cream is a lot like making ganache except instead of a 1-1 ratio it’s a 3-1 cream-chocolate ratio. Very easy :)

My Aunt is in town visiting and she requested that I make a cake. Since it was on my agenda for this week anyway, I accepted her more specific request for a chocolate cake. There is but one more chocolate cake in this book, so that will make Ian sad when he no longer has that to look forward to.

I brought this cake to my parents’-in-law’s house for our Independence Day celebrations and everyone loved it. It was delightfully light for a chocolate cake, and oh so delicious.
